FAQ
-
Do I need a Wind Mitigation Survey (Wind Mit)for a Fortified Roof?
No, a separate wind mitigation survey is not required once your roof is certified as FORTIFIED. The FORTIFIED certification process itself thoroughly documents the roof's wind-resistant features. The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) recognizes Fortified certification instead of a separate wind mitigation survey. Click HERE to view the Insurance Commissioner’s Bulletin outlining that there is no need for a Wind Mit.

The State of Louisiana offers a nonrefundable individual income tax credit for qualified expenses incurred on or after July 1, 2025, for the installation of a Fortified Roof. This credit is equal to the total amount of qualified expenses paid and certified by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), up to a maximum of $10,000 per resident taxpayer. A qualifying property is eligible for only one tax credit under this program.
The total amount of credits is capped at $10 million per fiscal year and is issued on a first-come, first-served basis. If you receive a grant from the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (R.S. 22:1483.1), you are NOT eligible for a tax credit. The application period for the credit begins on January 1st and ends on June 30th of the calendar year following the year the credit is earned. You must submit a copy of your IBHS Fortified certificate with your application.
